Our history

The Inkwell’s rich history began with the vision of one man, Ed Ensslin. Big Ed, as known to family and friends, began his career in the printing industry. Industrious and hard working, he purchased equipment in the 1960s, and transformed the family basement into a pressroom.

After years of working evenings and weekends, in addition to a full-time job, Ed’s dream of owning his own company became a reality. In 1977, he moved his growing business to a commercial building in Kenilworth, NJ, and dedicated himself exclusively to The Inkwell.

From the beginning, The Inkwell established a solid reputation for quality and service. Strong customer bonds reflected the same loyalty Ed had for his Inkwell family. Big Ed, working together with his son Ed, built The Inkwell from a part-time basement print shop into a full service print communications company.

Today, Ed continues to expand the dream his father established decades ago. Partnering with industry leaders such as Heidelberg®, Fuji®, Macintosh®, and Adobe® has enabled Ed to keep The Inkwell in step with industry trends and technological advances.

After more than three decades, our goals remain unchanged: Make our clients look good, serve them with respect and professionalism and consistently deliver quality and value.
